Hazrat Hassan (Razi Allah Tala Anhu) was the beloved grandson of our Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). He was the elder son of Hazrat Ali (Razi Allah Tala Anhu) and Hazrat Fatimah (Razi Allah Tala Anhu). Everyone in Madinah loved him very much because of his kindness, patience, and good manners.

From a young age, Hazrat Hassan (Razi Allah Tala Anhu) learned to be gentle, respectful, and caring. He would sit beside the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and listen to his words carefully. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) also loved Hazrat Hassan(Razi Allah Tala Anhu) deeply and once said, “Hassan and Hussain are the leaders of the youth of Paradise.” This shows how special he was in the eyes of Allah and His Messenger.
Hazrat Hassan (RaziAllah Tala Anhu) was known for his beautiful character. He always spoke politely and helped those in need. He did not shout or fight, even when people were rude to him. He would smile and respond with good behavior. This is the true teaching of Islam — to reply with kindness even when someone is angry with us.
One day, a man from another city came to Madinah. He did not know Hazrat Hassan (Razi Allah Tala Anhu) personally, and he had heard wrong things about him from others. So he started saying bad words to Hazrat Hassan (Razi Allah Tala Anhu) in public. The people around were shocked. They thought Hazrat Hassan would get angry. But do you know what he did?
Hazrat Hassan (RaziAllah Tala Anhu) quietly listened. He did not interrupt. When the man was done, Hazrat Hassan (RaziAllah Tala Anhu) smiled and said, “Brother, if you are hungry, I will feed you. If you need clothes, I will give you. If you have come from far, I will offer you a place to rest.” The man was surprised. He felt ashamed of his behavior. He realized that Hazrat Hassan(RaziAllah Tala Anhu) was not like what others had said. The man apologized and became a good friend of Hazrat Hassan(Razi Allah Tala Anhu).
This is a lesson for us all. Hazrat Hassan (RaziAllah Tala Anhu) showed how we can win hearts with love and patience. The Holy Quran also teaches us to speak kindly and forgive others. When someone hurts you, do not hurt them back. Instead, pray for them and do good in return. That is the way of the true believer.
Hazrat Hassan (RaziAllah Tala Anhu) also loved peace. After the death of his father, Hazrat Ali (Razi AllahTala Anhu), Hazrat Hassan (RaziAllah Tala Anhu) became the leader of the Muslims. But there was a time when some people wanted to fight. They wanted power and control. But Hazrat Hassan (RaziAllah Tala Anhu) did not want war and bloodshed. He wanted Muslims to stay united. So he made a big decision. He stepped down from leadership and gave it to another Muslim leader, Hazrat Muawiyah (Razi Allah Tala Anhu), to stop the fight.
He did not do this for fame or power. He did it for the sake of Islam and peace. That is why the year in which he made peace is called the “Year of Unity” — because he brought the Muslim Ummah together.
Even though Hazrat Hassan(Razi Allah Tala Anhu) had the right to lead, he chose peace over pride. He followed the Quran’s teachings which tell us not to fight our Muslim brothers and to always choose what is better for the whole Ummah. His action teaches us to think of others, not just ourselves.
Hazrat Hassan(RaziAllah Tala Anhu) also showed us how to be generous. He gave away much of his wealth to the poor and never turned anyone away. Once, a man came to him asking for help. Hazrat Hassan (Raz Allah Tala Anhu) gave him everything he had at that moment. Someone asked, “Why do you give so much?” Hazrat Hassan(RaziAllah Tala Anhu) replied, “I do not fear that Allah will make me poor. He gives to those who give.”
This is true faith. The Quran tells us that Allah loves those who spend in His path and help the needy. Hazrat Hassan(RaziAllah Tala Anhu) lived this teaching every day.
Hazrat Hassan (RaziAllah Tala Anhu) passed away at the age of 46, but he left behind a bright example of what it means to be a true Muslim. He was respectful, forgiving, patient, and always kind — even to people who were unkind to him.
