Salah – The Second Pillar of Islam

Prayer | Second pillar of islam

Salah is the second pillar of Islam. It is one of the most important things for every Muslim. Salah means prayer, and we do it to talk to Allah. When we pray Salah, we say good things to Allah. We thank Him. We ask Him to help us. We say sorry when we do something wrong. We remember Allah every day when we pray. Allah loves when we pray. He is happy when little boys and girls try to pray.

The Gift of Salah

Salah is a very special gift from Allah. Allah gave this gift to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during a very special night called Isra and Mi’raj. On that night, the Prophet (PBUH) went up to the sky. Allah gave him the gift of Salah for all Muslims. At first, Allah told us to pray many times. But then, Allah made it five times a day. We pray five times a day now.

The Five Daily Prayers

These five prayers are: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha.

  • Fajr is in the morning, before the sun comes up.
  • Dhuhr is at noon, when the sun is high.
  • Asr is in the afternoon, when the sun starts to go down.
  • Maghrib is at sunset.
  • Isha is at night.

Each prayer has a time. Each prayer has some Raka’at. Raka’at are the movements and words we say in Salah. We stand, we bow, we go into sujood (prostration), and we sit. In every movement, we say something to Allah.

What We Say in Salah

When we start Salah, we say “Allahu Akbar”. It means Allah is the Greatest. We fold our hands and read from the Qur’an. We say Surah Al-Fatiha in every Raka’ah. Then we read another surah like Surah Ikhlas. Then we bow down and say, “Subhana Rabbiyal Adheem.” This means “Glory be to my Lord, the Great.” Then we stand up and go to Sujood. Sujood is when we put our head on the floor. We say, “Subhana Rabbiyal A’la.” This means “Glory be to my Lord, the Most High.” We sit and do another sujood. In the last part of Salah, we sit and say words called Tashahhud. Then we say Salam to finish the prayer. We turn our head right and say, “Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah.” Then we do the same on the left. This means “Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.” After Salah, we can sit and make du’a. We can ask Allah anything. We can ask for good health, for our parents, for toys, for Jannah, and for the safety of all Muslims.

Wudu – Getting Ready to Pray

Before we pray, we must make Wudu. Wudu is washing parts of the body. We wash our hands, mouth, nose, face, arms, head, ears, and feet. Wudu makes us clean. We should wear clean clothes and pray in a clean place. We must face the Kaaba in Makkah. That is the direction of Qiblah. We pray on a prayer mat. We can pray at home, at school, or in the mosque.

The Adhan – Call to Prayer

When we hear the Adhan, it means it is time for Salah. The Adhan is the call to prayer. The person who calls the Adhan is called the Mu’adhin. He says, “Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.”

Salah in the Life of the Prophet

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) always prayed Salah. He never missed it. He told Muslims to pray and teach their children to pray too. Even when he was very tired or sick, he still prayed. That shows us how important Salah is.

The Blessings of Salah

Salah makes us better people. It teaches us to be kind, honest, and patient. It teaches us to be thankful to Allah. It helps our heart feel clean and peaceful. Salah brings Barakah, which means blessings. When we pray, we get rewards from Allah. These rewards are called Hasanat. Angels write our good deeds in a book. On the Day of Judgment, Allah will look at our Salah. If we prayed well, Allah will be very happy. We will go to Jannah, a beautiful place. In Jannah, there are gardens, rivers, castles, and fun things. Salah helps us go to Jannah. That is why we should love Salah.

Learning Salah as Children

Even small children can learn Salah. We can start slowly. First, we learn how to do Wudu. Then we learn how to say “Allahu Akbar.” Then we learn Surah Al-Fatiha. We can learn the steps one by one. Our parents and teachers can help us. If we make a mistake, it is okay. Allah still gives us reward for trying. If we forget a prayer, we can pray it later. Allah is Forgiving. If we are sick, we can pray sitting or lying down. If we are traveling, we can make prayers shorter. Allah makes it easy for us.

Praying in Jama’ah

Salah is for everyone—mommies, daddies, boys, girls, grandmas, and grandpas. We can also pray in Jama’ah, which means in a group. When we pray in Jama’ah, we get more rewards. The person who leads the prayer is called the Imam. Everyone follows the Imam. We must listen quietly and copy the Imam. When someone is praying, we should not talk or play near them. We should be quiet and respectful.

Praying with Our Heart

Salah is not just movement. It is talking to Allah. We must pray with our heart. We should think about Allah, about Jannah, and about being good. We should pray with love and not be lazy.

Fun Ways to Learn Salah

Some kids like to make a Salah chart. They tick the box when they pray Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha. This helps them remember to pray. Some kids like to color a prayer mat. Some kids like to teach their dolls how to pray. These are fun ways to love Salah.

Respecting the Prayer

We should also wear nice clothes when we pray. Boys can wear long shirts or clean pants. Girls can wear a scarf and a clean dress. We must not run or play during Salah. We must stand still and be calm. We should say our words clearly. We should learn the meaning of what we say. That helps us love Salah more.

A Special Friend

When we pray, angels come close. They listen to our words. They go to Allah with our du’as. Every Salah is a chance to be close to Allah. Every Sujood is a hug for our heart. Every time we pray, we grow closer to Jannah.
