Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihis Salam) was a noble and truthful man. He was chosen by Allah to guide people to the right path. From a young age, he was curious and thoughtful. He looked at the world around him and began to wonder, “Who made the stars? Who made the sun and the moon? Who made the trees and the mountains?” In the land where Ibrahim lived, people used to worship idols made of stone. They believed those idols could help them, protect them, and give them good things. But Ibrahim knew deep in his heart that only the Creator of the world could be God—not statues that cannot speak or move.

Even as a young boy, he asked his people, “Why do you worship these idols? They cannot hear you, see you, or do anything for you.” His father, who used to make and sell idols, did not like this. He told Ibrahim to stop. But Ibrahim was respectful and did not argue. He simply said, “I will ask my Lord to guide you.” Ibrahim knew that truth must be spoken with kindness.
Ibrahim continued to think deeply. One night, he saw a star shining brightly. For a moment, he wondered if it could be his Lord. But when the star disappeared, he said, “I do not like things that go away.” Then he saw the moon, and later the sun. But both came and went, too. He finally said, “My Lord is the One who created all of this. He is always there, and He never disappears.” This is how Ibrahim came to believe in Allah, the One true God.
Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihis Salam) tried to explain this truth to his people, but most of them refused to listen. They were angry and did not want to change their ways. But Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihis Salam) did not give up. He remained patient and calm. One day, when the people went out to celebrate a festival, Ibrahim stayed behind. He went to the place where the idols were kept. He broke all the small idols, but left the biggest one standing. Then he placed the axe in the hand of the large idol.
When the people came back, they were shocked to see their idols broken. “Who did this to our gods?” they asked. Some said, “It must be Ibrahim.” When they brought Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihis Salam) to question him, he said, “Ask the big idol. He has the axe.” The people knew the idol could not speak. They were silent for a moment, but their pride stopped them from accepting the truth. Instead of changing, they became angry. They said, “Let us punish him.” So they built a large fire and threw Ibrahim into it. But Allah protected His prophet. He made the fire cool and safe. Ibrahim came out without being hurt. This showed everyone that Allah takes care of those who are faithful and brave.
Later, Allah gave Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihis Salam) a son named Ismail (A.S.). Allah tested Ibrahim again. He told him to leave Ismail and his mother, Hajar (A.S.), in a dry desert with no water or food. Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihis Salam) obeyed without question. He trusted Allah to care for his family. Hajar, too, trusted Allah. When Ismail became thirsty, she ran between two hills searching for water. Allah heard her prayers and caused water to spring from the ground near her baby’s feet. This was the Zamzam well, and it still flows today.
As Ismail grew older, Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihis Salam) had another great test. He saw a dream that Allah wanted him to sacrifice his son. It was a very hard test, but Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihis Salam) did not hesitate. He told Ismail about the dream. Ismail, who was also obedient to Allah, said, “Father, do what you are commanded. I will be patient.” When Ibrahim was about to do it, Allah stopped him. It was only a test to see their faith. A ram was given to them to sacrifice instead. This story teaches us that we must trust Allah, even when things are difficult.
After passing these tests, Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihis Salam) and Ismail were asked to build a special house of worship—the Ka‘bah. They worked together, placing stone upon stone, and prayed that Allah would accept their effort. Today, Muslims around the world turn towards the Ka‘bah when they pray. This is the same house that Ibrahim and Ismail built with their own hands.
The story of Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihis Salam) teaches us many important lessons. It teaches us to think, not just follow others blindly. Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihis Salam) looked at the world and searched for the truth himself. He did not accept what was wrong, even if everyone else was doing it. We learn from him to always speak the truth, but to speak kindly and respectfully. He was gentle with his father, even when they disagreed.
We also learn about trust and obedience. Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihis Salam) trusted Allah in every test. Whether he was thrown into fire, leaving his family in the desert, or ready to sacrifice his son, he never doubted Allah. And Allah always helped him. This teaches us that when we follow what is right, Allah is always with us.
Prophet Ibrahim (Alaihis Salam) was called the Friend of Allah because of his strong faith. He never gave up doing what was good and honest. We should try to be like him—truthful, patient, and obedient to Allah’s commands. We should always pray, help others, and do what is right, even when it is not easy. Then, Allah will also be pleased with us.
